Dijkwel, Theo Mattheus Dijkwell
(name variants: Theo Dijkwel, Thijs Dijkwijl; sometimes signed with Dijkwell) was born July 15, 1881 in Dordrecht and died January 31, 1952 in The Hague. Dijkwel was a pupil of Jean Delville and Herman Richir and later – when he was in London, England – of Hughes. He apparently did not pursue any professional training beyond that. He was a very versatile artist (lithographer, painter, draftsman) who took an interest in many subjects (flowers, animals, portraits, still lifes and fruits). Dijkwel was active not only in his birthplace Dordrecht but also in Rotterdam, The Hague, Brussels, Lübeck, and London. He was a member of the drawing society Pictura in Dordrecht. Mentioned in Scheen.
