The Meisterstück, which means “masterpiece” in German, lives up to its name with magnificent craftsmanship. Since its creation, this fountain pen has been one of the most desired writing instruments. Today, this companion for visionary, dreamer, and ambitious minds remains an icon of writing.

The cap and reservoir are made of precious burgundy resin with the iconic white Montblanc emblem inlaid on the top of the cap. The fountain pen features the emblematic 14k gold handcrafted nib. As a curiosity, this nib is carved by the brand’s artisans with gold laminates, in a process that consists of 35 steps.

The company was founded in 1906, when designer August Eberstein and banker Alfred Nehemias created its first line of fountain pens. Although they initially produced simple fountain pens, they gradually moved toward luxury pens, and thus in 1908 the “Rouge et Noir” was born, Montblanc’s first luxury fountain pen.

Since then, Montblanc continued expanding its line of writing instruments. In 1924, they launched the well-known Meisterstück, which today is the most famous fountain pen of all time. With this, Montblanc established itself as a manufacturer and distributor of luxury goods, such as writing instruments, watches, leather goods, leather articles, jewelry, fragrances, and other accessories.

After World War II, a period of reconstruction and innovation followed in the late 1940s, and Montblanc’s artisans chose a new, much more refined look for the Meisterstück: the iconic design became famous for its pure form. In 1949, Montblanc introduced a trio of models: the 142, the 144, and the 146. Three years later, a new size of the Meisterstück was launched, the iconic 149.
