The Swan Mabie Todd Swan 1060 Leverless fountain pen with a No.4 14K gold nib, resin body, made in the United Kingdom in the second half of the 20th century, about 13.5 cm long and 1.3 cm in diameter, in excellent condition with a new ink sac and clear imprint.
Description from the seller
The Mabie Todd Swan 1060 is a distinguished British vintage fountain pen from one of the most respected names in early 20th-century pen making. It features the elegant proportions, restrained detailing and refined construction for which Swan pens became known, together with a large No. 4 "Eternal" 14K gold nib that gives the pen a more substantial and expressive writing character.
One of the most distinctive features of the 1060 is Mabie Todd’s Leverless filling system. Instead of using an external lever, the pen is filled by turning the knob at the rear of the barrel. This rotation drives an internal metal bar that twists and compresses the rubber ink sac inside the pen, forcing the air out. When the rear knob is turned back to its original position, the sac is released and returns to shape, drawing ink into the reservoir through the nib and feed. The system preserves the clean exterior of the barrel while providing a mechanically ingenious alternative to the conventional lever filler.
With its large No. 4 gold nib, substantial proportions and characteristic Leverless mechanism, the Swan 1060 is both a highly usable vintage writer and an especially interesting example of classic British fountain-pen engineering.
The pen is in very good, pre-owned condition. It is fitted with a new sac, and has been carefully cleaned. The imprint remains clear. Imperfections: light scratches, slight plating issues on the clip.
