This special GS was built in September 1989 at the BMW plant in Berlin-Spandau, right at the start of the 1990 model year. BMW traditionally moved up to the new model year each September.
Thus this motorcycle belongs to the early 1990 Paris Dakar edition, recognizable by the iconic:
- large 35-liter fuel tank
- distinctive frame-mounted fairing
- rectangular headlight
- original instrument cluster
- rugged, classic Paris Dakar appearance
