Omas Amerigo Vespucci fountain pen, made in Italy in 1991, a limited edition with a radica dark red body, 14k gold nib and piston-filler, presented with box and accessories.
Description from the seller
The Italian company OMAS, born in Bologna in 1925, whose name is the acronym of Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni, after the name of its founder, has not been any less in creativity and in the choice of the important celebrations to which it has dedicated many of its collections. Among the most fascinating is the fountain pen from the Amerigo Vespucci Collection, a special edition produced in a limited run dating back to 1991. The OMAS AMERIGO VESPUCCI fountain pen is a very rare piece, a tribute to the namesake sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci, the training ship of the Italian Navy which in turn bears the name of the famous Florentine navigator and explorer. Made with a robust and elegant barrel in dark red root wood, with gold-colored metal finishing details and the unmistakable Greek-motif decorations so dear to the brand’s creator, it bears on the grip the engraving 1991, the year of its manufacture. From the nib in 14k gold and the piston-filling mechanism, in its full version it comes complete with box, under-stair (sottoscala), cylindrical wooden case, and a parchment with a map of the seas and the emblem of the Amerigo Vespucci. The cloth with which each package was accompanied, truly taken from original sails that were stretched on the Vespucci and are no longer in use due to age, makes every piece unique, as a testament to the ship’s intense life at sea. In 2021, the training ship Amerigo Vespucci celebrated its 90 years since she was launched on February 22, 1931, beginning to sail the seas with that innate elegance that has earned her the recognition as the most beautiful ship in the world.
