Kuno Schiefer, Gresion, 1992, oil painting on canvas in abstract style, sold with frame, original edition, 46 × 47 cm (with frame), Germany.
Description from the seller
Gresion is an oil painting on canvas from 1992 by Kuno Schiefer (1948–1992). The nearly square composition is dominated by an intensely yellow ground, over which bold organic shapes in bright blue and dark brown are distributed. The elongated, curved and pointed color fields form a dynamic pattern, while at several places fine drawn outlines remain visible in the yellow areas. This creates an interesting contrast between the broad, flat-painted color forms and the fragile underlying line work. The strongly reduced vocabulary of forms aligns with Schiefer’s late abstract work.
Signed at the bottom: Kuno Schiefer. On the back are the title Gresion, the dimensions 45 × 45 cm, the artist’s name and the year 1992. The work measures, according to the given size, 45 × 46 cm; including the frame 46 × 47 cm. Provenance: estate of the Kuno Schiefer family. The work is delivered with a book about the artist.
Artist biography
Kuno Schiefer (Stuttgart, 1948 – São José dos Campos, 1992) was a German painter and graphic artist who had lived in Brazil since his youth. From 1964 to 1968 he studied at the Escola de Belas Artes in São José dos Campos. His œuvre includes paintings, drawings, and graphics and evolved from figurative representations to a distinctly abstract visual language, in which nature and vegetation remained important references. Schiefer exhibited, among others, at Galeria do Sol in São Paulo, Galeria Saramenha in Rio de Janeiro, and Galerie Redmann in Berlin. He participated in the Santos Biennial in 1973 and in various Brazilian art salons. In 1988 his work was part of Workshop Berlin at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP). From 1985 onward he divided his time between Brazil and Berlin.
