Description from the seller
This large-format abstract oil painting by Ernst van Leyden (1892–1969) is signed and dated in the lower left corner: Leyden 59. The composition is dominated by an intense red‑orange field, in which angular and curved forms in black, brown, gray-blue, pink and white are laid over one another. Small accents in bright yellow and yellow-green break through the warm palette. Broad brushstrokes, transparent overpaintings and sharply bounded color fields alternate, creating a layered and dynamic image structure.
On the reverse side are, among other inscriptions, Ernst van Leyden, September 1959, Venezia and Composition in red. Dimensions of the work: 153 × 90 cm. Including frame: 165 × 101 cm. The frame shows some damage.
