The Beatles – Please Please Me (UK) early mono first pressing with -1N/-1N matrices, Parlophone rim text and yellow‑and‑black Parlophone labels, Parlophone PMC 1202, Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve, UK release year 1964; sleeve EX, vinyl VG+.
Description from the seller
A beautiful early UK mono copy of The Beatles' debut album, featuring the original XEX 421-1N / XEX 422-1N matrices and classic yellow-and-black Parlophone labels carrying the highly desirable early label configuration.
This copy comes from the early production period of Please Please Me and carries the original Parlophone perimeter text reading "THE PARLOPHONE CO. LTD." along with "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963" and notably without the later "SOLD IN U.K." wording. That combination places this copy firmly within the early Parlophone production sequence, while the record retains the original -1N/-1N metalwork first introduced at the beginning of the album's UK mono production run. The record also carries the embossed K/T purchase-tax code, another attractive period manufacturing detail. Together these elements establish this as a genuinely early pressing from the initial release window.
⸻
Sleeve (EX):
A particularly impressive original Garrod & Lofthouse laminated flipback sleeve. The front cover remains exceptionally clean, retaining excellent laminate sheen and strong contrast in the famous Angus McBean photograph. The back shows some light age-related yellowing, but otherwise remains remarkably clean and presentable. The edges, corners and overall structure are very strong. For an early copy of Please Please Me, this is an unusually attractive EX example.
Vinyl (VG+):
A very attractive copy with excellent original gloss. There are some fine superficial hairlines visible under strong light and light evidence of previous play, but no deep or feelable marks are present. The labels remain notably clean and attractive. Visually the record is a strong VG+, while playback is significantly better: the record plays beautifully and comfortably throughout at approximately EX audio quality.
