Description from the seller
Splendid and exceptional pair of cigar/cigarette mouthpieces (cheroot holders) for collection, dating from the period around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The pieces are presented in an excellent state of preservation ("like new"), used very little (only three or four times) and magnificently preserved. They show no significant encrustations, tar deposits, or the typical bite marks on the amber part, maintaining the material's original shine. The lot consists of two pieces of outstanding craftsmanship:
1. Figurative Mouthpiece (Tyrolean/Alpine Pair): A true masterpiece of micro-sculpture. Masterfully carved in light sea foam, it depicts a couple in traditional period attire. Anatomical details, clothing, and hats are perfectly intact, with no cracks or restorations. The nib is in fine natural amber with a warm orange color.
2. Through-cut Ornamental Mouthpiece: Characterized by a very fine, deeply relief-incised geometric and floral pattern. It features a splendid and uniform dark amber/brown coloration of sepiolite, which enhances its three-dimensionality. The final mouthpiece is also in amber, perfectly polished.
Both pieces come with their original rigid cases from the era, custom-fitted, externally clad in dark leather/fabric and internally lined in elegant velvet and silk in plum and bright fuchsia tones. The hinges and fasteners are perfectly functional.
A museum-quality lot, ideal to enrich even the most demanding collections of smoking paraphernalia or European antiques.
