Description from the seller
Anton Rooskens is a versatile artist. He was born in 1906 in Horst and died in 1976 in Amsterdam. From the early years after its founding, he was an active member of the Cobra group. Initially, around the early fifties, African influences appear in his work, along with a clear composition, line work, and the color black. After 1965 his work becomes noticeably more colorful and the colors red, yellow, and blue dominate. Then, according to connoisseurs, he resembles more his Cobra colleagues!
This litho print has the striking, meaningful title 'Printemps'. It is an impression with a relief-printed surface: an 'edition' from the well-known gallery run by art expert Herman Krikhaar in Amsterdam, who maintained personal contacts with the Cobra painters. This lithograph by Anton Rooskens is an H.C. (artist's proof) that was sold through Krikhaar and bought there. Notably is the fingerprint at the top left of the artist.
