Salvador Dalí (1904–1989)
MAO TSE-TOUNG. POÈMES.
Éditions Argillet, Paris, 1967.
A copy of the first French edition of Mao Tse-Tung's poems illustrated by Salvador Dalí, edited by Pierre Argillet.
Large-format volume, preserving its original publisher's case. Illustrated with the original engravings conceived by Dalí for this edition.
Exceptionally enriched with a wide original autographed drawing by Salvador Dalí, made directly on the inner cover and the book’s endpaper, executed with a blue ballpoint pen and occupying both facing pages. The composition, of a fully surreal nature, incorporates automatic lines, biomorphic shapes, and fantastical figures characteristic of the artist's spontaneous graphic language.
The volume constitutes a singular testimony to Dalí's habit of personally intervening in certain copies destined for friends, colleagues, or close collectors, endowing them with the character of a one-of-a-kind piece.
With publisher's case.
Paris, 1967.
