About the artist:
Victor Vasarely: (1906-1997) French painter of Hungarian origin, regarded as the father of optical art, i.e., "op art". His works are housed in the world's major museums, including: Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Japan); Fondation Vasarely, Centre Pompidou (France); Walker Art Center, MOMA, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim, New York (USA); Das Museum Folkwang (Germany); Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Portugal); Kröller-Müller Museum (Netherlands); Queensland Art Gallery (Australia); Nykytaiteen museo Kiasma (Finland); Horsens Kunstmuseum (Denmark); Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Italy); National Gallery of Scotland, Tate Collection (Great Britain); Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Argentina); Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje (FYROM); Henie Onstad Museum (Norway); Victor Vasarely Museum, Pécs (Hungary); Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Caracas (Venezuela); Musée des Beaux Arts, Montreal (Canada)...
About the work:
Vasarely's perfectionism demands absolute quality, which only then could be ensured by the printing capabilities of Basel printers. Thus, between 1971 and 1978, the publisher Du Griffon in Neuchâtel, Switzerland entrusted Victor Vasarely with the realization, distribution, and dissemination of 19 albums and 12 screenprints forming an overview of his works. This unique edition was separated from the special edition titled 'Ondulatoires', which Vasarely designed and supervised himself, and with the same attention to quality, Du Griffon produced these series of albums printed in the 70s, identified by copyright on the back of the prints.
