Elegant Japanese porcelain decorative plate in the Arita/Imari style, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century (approximately 1880–1920), measuring 22 cm in diameter and 4 cm high with a 22 cm depth, featuring cobalt blue, iron red, green and gilded accents, a petal-edged rim, a central blue landscape medallion and a hand-painted blue back, and a red seal mark considered likely decorative/apocryphal.
Description from the seller
Elegant decorative dish in Japanese porcelain in the Arita/Imari style, characterized by the traditional contrast between cobalt blue, iron red, green and gold details.
The plate features a refined petal-shaped edge, with rich decoration divided into floral reserves and oriental motifs. In the central medallion there is a stylized landscape painted predominantly in blue. The back is also hand-decorated in blue.
On the bottom there is a red mark in seal-script Chinese-style characters, to be considered presumably apocryphal/decorative, according to a practice observed in Japanese Arita and Imari productions intended also for export.
Likely Japanese production between the late 19th and early 20th century, approximately 1880–1920.
Condition: good in relation to age. Normal signs of time and some small chips/lacunae along the rim, clearly visible in the photographs. There are also slight wear to the decoration and gilding. These flaws do not compromise legibility or the decorative charm of the piece.
An interesting specimen of Oriental taste, particularly decorative and suitable for a collection of Japanese Imari/Arita porcelain.
