Willem van Scheijndel, title z.t., 1992, mixed technique on canvas, hand-signed, original edition, sold with frame by Galerie, framed 121 x 131 cm (unframed 115 x 125 cm), origin Netherlands, abstract composition inspired by landscape, in good condition, 1990–2000 period.
Description from the seller
This colorful, abstract painting immediately catches the eye with its strong horizontal composition and the pronounced color contrast. The image is built up from broad zones of deep black and dark blue, bright turquoise and warm yellow-orange, which evoke associations with a landscape where sky, water and land meet. The paint is applied freely and expressively, with visible brush and spatula strokes and small accents in red, white and other colors. It is precisely the combination of large color fields and lively, almost fragmentary details that gives the work both calm and dynamism. Although the representation is abstract, there remains enough recognizability for the viewer to discover a landscape or memory in the composition.
Willem van Schijndel is a Dutch visual artist who is best known for his colorful, expressive painting. In his work, color plays a leading role and recognizable elements are often reduced to simplified forms and powerful planes. His paintings thus occupy the boundary between figuration and abstraction: a landscape or other representation can serve as a starting point, but is primarily a means to explore atmosphere, rhythm and color effects. A distinctive feature is the energetic painting technique, in which different layers of paint, textures and contrasting color accents together yield a vibrant and direct image.
