Original Taishō period Tansu cabinet in two sections, with kiri and hinoki wood and iron hardware, 90 cm high by 54.2 cm wide by 42.5 cm deep, fully restored with a warm reddish-brown lacquer and in excellent condition, certificate of authenticity included.
Description from the seller
A handsome wooden tansu 箪笥 (cabinet) in two sections, fitted with extensive blackened iron hardware. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed in Japan.
The frame is constructed from sugi 杉 (Japanese cedar), while the drawer fronts are veneered with hinoki 檜 (Japanese cypress). The cabinet is finished in an attractive warm reddish-brown lacquer.
The cabinet is arranged with two full-width drawers, three further drawers of different sizes, and a hinged cupboard door opening to reveal three additional interior drawers. The fronts are fitted with sturdy iron warabite-shaped 蕨手 bail handles and large circular lock plates, finely engraved with a radiating crest-like design.
Both sides are equipped with a pair of iron totte 取手 (carrying handles) together with U-shaped pole-carrying fittings, allowing the two sections to be transported more easily, and locking the parts in place.
