Description from the seller
MANFRED LINUS KREINER (1926–2005)
Title: John F. Kennedy & Konrad Adenauer — Exiting the White House Portico, 1962
DESCRIPTION:
Magnificent photograph by photographer Manfred Linus Kreiner in Washington, D.C., on November 14, 1962, during the official visit of West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer to the White House.
The image captures Konrad Adenauer and John F. Kennedy leaving the White House portico together, surrounded by several members of their official entourage. Kennedy appears beside the German chancellor in a moment of movement, at the heart of a particularly solemn presidential setting.
The vertical composition, framed by the imposing columns of the portico, gives the scene a monumental dimension. The two men stand out in the foreground, while the personalities accompanying them reinforce the official character of the meeting.
This visit occurs in a major international context, only a few weeks after the Cuban Missile Crisis. It bears witness to the importance of US–Federal Republic of Germany relations at the heart of the Cold War.
Through its framing and privileged access to the presidential scene, Manfred Kreiner captures here a moment that is both ceremonial and particularly vivid in this historic meeting.
This photograph belongs to the The Kennedy Years corpus by Manfred L. Kreiner, rediscovered from the original negatives kept in the photographer’s estate archives.
