Title: John F. Kennedy & Adolfo López Mateos — Presidential Procession, Mexico City, 1962
DESCRIPTION:
Wonderful photograph by Manfred Linus Kreiner in Mexico City, June 29, 1962, during the state visit of President John F. Kennedy to Mexico, at the invitation of Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos.
The photograph captures President Kennedy in the presidential open-top car, beside President López Mateos, at the heart of the official procession passing through the streets of Mexico City. Just behind them, American Secret Service agents provide close protection for the president.
The scene testifies to the extraordinary reception Kennedy received from the Mexican people. A real shower of confetti envelops the procession as an enormous crowd gathers along the route. Kennedy, who did not expect such a large reception, was deeply moved by the warmth of this welcome.
This photograph belongs to the The Kennedy Years corpus by Manfred Kreiner, rediscovered from the original negatives kept in the photographer’s estate archives.
