Original, signed Japanese Shōwa-period writing table in lacquered wood with silver fittings, dimensions 66.3 × 37 × 20.2 cm, featuring togidashi maki-e with four tennin amid scrolling karakusa, in excellent condition, complete with its signed tomobako and a certificate of authenticity.
Description from the seller
A quality rectangular lacquer bundai 文台 (reading or writing desk), finished in a deep glossy black lacquer.
The top is decorated in elegant togidashi maki-e 研出蒔絵 (burnished lacquer design) with four graceful tennin 天人 (celestial beings) floating in a circular composition. The corners are richly adorned with scrolling karakusa 唐草 (arabesque foliage), all executed in finely burnished gold lacquer.
The bundai is raised on four gently spreading legs fitted with silver protective plates. The apron is decorated with stylised lobed cut-outs, while the rims are finished with a continuous butterfly motif.
Complete with its original signed and sealed wooden storage box (tomobako 共箱).
Period: Japan - Shôwa period (1926-1989).

Height: 20.2 cm; Width: 66.3 cm; Depth: 37 cm.
The bundai is in very good condition with only minor traces of wear consistent with age, including a tiny chip to one corner. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition.
