Description from the seller
Pelikan 101N Red Tortoise – 14K Gold Nib – Germany – c.1937
English description
Rare early Pelikan 101N “Red Tortoise” piston-filling fountain pen, Germany, circa 1937–1938.
This attractive pre-war Pelikan combines a warm tortoiseshell-patterned celluloid barrel with dark red / burgundy hard-rubber components and gold-coloured trim.
The design and dimensions correspond to the early Pelikan 101N series introduced in the late 1930s.
The fountain pen is fitted with a vintage “WARRANTED 14 KARAT” solid gold nib. The nib appears to be a period replacement rather than the standard Pelikan-branded nib originally associated with this model.
The cap carries an old personalised inscription, apparently reading “P. v. Breukelen”, adding to the historical character of the piece.
The pen shows clear signs of age and use, including patina and wear to the gold-coloured trim, surface wear and ageing of the hard rubber. The attractive tortoiseshell celluloid barrel remains an important feature of the pen.
