1. Rafael Canogar (Toledo, 1935) is a living titan and a cornerstone figure of European contemporary art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
2. Founder in 1957 of the legendary group El Paso, he led the informalist vanguard and opened Spanish art to the world.
3. His meteoric global rise came in 1960 when he exhibited in New York’s modern art temples: the MoMA and the Guggenheim.
4. He triumphed and was a standout protagonist at the prestigious Venice Biennale, where he was recognized and distinguished with his own special room.
5. His international career includes important distinctions in global events, such as the award at the 1971 São Paulo Biennial.
