About the artist:
Victor Vasarely: (1906-1997) French-born Hungarian painter widely recognized as the father of Op Art, or "op-art." His works are represented in the world's leading museums, including: Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Japan); Fondation Vasarely, Centre Pompidou (France); Walker Art Center, MOMA, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim, New York (USA); Das Museum Folkwang (Germany); Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal); Kröller-Müller Museum (Netherlands); Queensland Art Gallery (Australia); Nykytaiteen museo Kiasma (Finland); Horsens Kunstmuseum (Denmark); Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Italy); National Gallery of Scotland, Tate Collection (United Kingdom); Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Argentina); Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje (FYROM); Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (Norway); Victor Vasarely Museum, Pécs (Hungary); Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Caracas (Venezuela); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Canada)...
About the work:
Vasarely’s pursuit of perfection imposes an exacting standard of quality that, at that time, only the capabilities of Basel’s printing presses could meet. Thus, between 1971 and 1978, Editions du Griffon, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, were entrusted by Victor Vasarely with the production, distribution, and dissemination of 19 albums and 12 screen prints collecting the best of his works.
This unique print stems from a special edition titled "Ondulatoires" imagined and supervised by Victor Vasarely himself, and it is with the same quality-conscious approach that Editions du Griffon gave exceptional care to these series of albums printed in the 1970s, identifiable by the copyright on the back of the impressions.
