Conrad Felixmüller – Hand-signed handwritten letter (1973) and 2 original woodcuts "Selbstbildnis mit Frau" (printed from the original block)
Description:
An exceptional collector's lot from the renowned German Expressionist painter and printmaker Conrad Felixmüller (1897–1977), comprising a valuable autograph document and duplicate original graphic works. All pieces come from the same private archive, as evidenced by the matching fine pencil cataloging marks (151/x).
The lot includes:
• 1 Handwritten Letter/Invitation (1973): Dated September 19, 1973 in Berlin. Written and hand-signed in blue ink jointly by Conrad Felixmüller and his wife Londa ("Ihre Londa & Conrad Felixmüller"). Addressed to architect Walter Sauermilch. In the letter, the artist praises a study on Hagia Sophia, recounts a recent journey through the cathedrals of northern France where he viewed the pastels of Quentin de La Tour, and warmly invites the recipient to his major retrospective exhibitions in Berlin (1973).
• 2 Identical Original Woodcuts (Duplicate): Titled "Selbstbildnis mit Frau" (Self-Portrait with Wife), depicting the artist together with Londa in the studio. Both prints are original woodcuts printed directly from the artist's hand-carved block ("Original-Holzschnitt vom Stock gedruckt"), issued especially for the catalog of the aforementioned Verein Berliner Künstler 1973 exhibition. On high-quality textured paper.
Condition: Excellent. The paper is clean, with no severe folds, tears, or damp stains (foxing). A unique opportunity to acquire intimate correspondence and authentic graphic works by one of the great masters of New Objectivity and Expressionism.
