AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A unique piece from a private collection (100 x 70 cm on hardboard) by Hilla Jablonsky, who is counted among the central and recognized artists of German Informel. For her artistic work she received the Dr.-Theobald-Simon Art Prize (1989) as well as the renowned August Macke Medal of the City of Bonn (1999) and other prizes.

In this work, Hilla Jablonsky unfolds a painting language of great vitality and gestural immediacy. Yellow and dark green determine the color fabric, while black, red and blue provide powerful accents. Distinctive forms and lines act as visual anchors, giving the explosive composition support without imposing a fixed order on it.

Jablonsky’s works have been shown in over 50 solo and group exhibitions in Germany and internationally, including Vienna, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Seoul, Dublin and St. Petersburg. Her works are now in public collections as well as in important private collections at home and abroad. Five-figure euro amounts have been achieved for individual works.

After training with Alexej von Assaulenko, Cameron Hoover, Franz Radziwill and Albert Paris Gütersloh, she worked as a freelance artist from 1968 onward. She was a co-founder of the Frauenmuseum Bonn, honorary chairwoman of the artists’ association GEDOK Bonn, and served as a juror in numerous art committees.

"Hilla Jablonsky’s imagery leaves the observer with broad latitude for perception. Her compositions belong to the tradition of Informel, which celebrated the spontaneous gesture. Often they arise from inner emotional states. In her relentless insistence on subjectivity, Jablonsky transforms moments of happiness and cheerfulness, restlessness and fear, anger and sorrow into a battlefield of color stains, lines, and graphic signs. The remarkable thing: in the end there is an order of harmonious balance." (Marion Leske, art writer)

As a painter, draftswoman and lyricist, Hilla Jablonsky developed over decades a distinctive, powerful visual language. Her large-format, color-intensive compositions fuse gestural dynamism with structural density and are characterized by a high sensitivity to rhythm, surface, and materiality. In addition to acrylics and pastels, she experimented with collages, unusual materials, and performances.
