Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) was released July 1978, only in the USA & Canada. It did not appear in the retail European market until 1980. A highly anticipated album, this official release is in fact a mix of new songs and a 'remake' of material from an album that never saw official release, entitled "Bat Chain Puller", hence the sub-title.
4. Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band – Doc At The Radar Station (Virgin – 202 870-320)
Born: 15th January 1941, Glendale, California, USA.
Died: 17th December 2010, Arcata, California, USA.
Captain Beefheart, aka Don Van Vliet; vocalist, harp-player, saxophonist, flautist, songwriter, lyricist, poet & painter. As a frontman of "Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band" or working without The Magic Band, the captain recorded a dozen official albums. Several live releases would follow, some of them perhaps not entirely official. Van Vliet's career path was also interwoven with that of Frank Zappa, and was followed by secluded 'retirement' with his wife in 1982 when he began painting full time. He maintained an affinity for wildlife throughout his life and was a keen conservationist. My name is Hans Kesteloo and I finally decided to sell my ‘remaining’ collection of 45’s, LP’s, CD’s, DVD’s, laserdiscs and other odd things after more than 60 years of ‘hardcore’ collecting. I purchased my first 45 in 1965, and this was the beginning of an enjoyable, long-time hobby – a real-time “collector’s career”. Now time has come to pass the baton !
