Description from the seller
Original Japanese woodblock print - Silver Heron - artist unknown - Japan - 1895
Title of the series: 依様帖
Year this series was printed: 明治28年 (Meiji period)
Dimensions: 26 cm x 18 cm
Condition and state of the print:
The Japanese print is in good, well-preserved condition. The paper is still sturdy and feels solid. In the center there is a light central crease visible, but it does not appear to significantly affect the paper quality. The colors are still good and clearly visible and have retained much of their original appearance. No major damage is noted. All in all, this is a nicely preserved Japanese print with a good appearance.
Meiji period:
The Meiji period (1868–1912) was a significant era during which Japan quickly transformed and modernized. This also affected Japanese woodblock prints. The traditional technique of printmaking continued, but artists increasingly employed new subjects, styles and techniques. Western influences were also present, for example in the use of perspective, color and realistic details. Woodblock prints from this period thus show beautifully how old Japanese traditions were combined with new, modern developments. As a result, Meiji prints are particularly interesting as examples of the transition from traditional to modern Japan.
Shipping:
The woodblock print is carefully and securely packaged to protect it during transport. The print will be sent by registered mail and equipped with a Track & Trace code, so the shipment can be tracked throughout its journey.
