Description from the seller
Yves Michaud (1950–2025) – Haitian Village Scene
Original painting by Haitian artist Yves Michaud (1950–2025), depicting a lively village scene in the hills of Haiti.
The composition shows several figures gathered along a winding road, surrounded by brightly coloured houses, trees and rolling hills. Michaud creates considerable depth through the ascending road and placement of the figures, while the vivid turquoise, yellow, pink and green tones give the painting its distinctive Caribbean atmosphere.
The work is signed “Y. Michaud” lower left.
Yves Michaud was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1950. He began painting in 1969 under the guidance of Haitian painter Néhémy Jean. His work is associated with scenes of everyday Haitian life, particularly village landscapes and figurative compositions. Michaud developed a recognisable figurative style characterised by expressive human figures, colourful architecture and atmospheric landscapes.
Around 2000, Michaud is reported to have begun working under the name Georges Desarmes, making works bearing his earlier Yves Michaud signature representative of an earlier period of his career.
