Karel Appel, Bogota, a 1978 Cobra-style screen print, hand-signed, limited edition EA, 65 x 62.5 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful (very rare) screen print by Karel Appel titled 'Bogota' from 1978.
This screen print was never officially issued; only a few EA (Épreuves d'Artiste) copies exist that were used as proofs.
These proofs were intended for the final exhibition poster of the Dutch CoBrA artist Karel Appel for his exhibition at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá and the Planetario Distrital de Bogotá in 1978 in Bogotá, Colombia.
Image: The central image is based on Appel's work "De indian" (a screen print from 1977 from his folder 'De schilderkist'). The image of De indian has been adapted to the wishes of Karel Appel and Henk van der Vet to create a suitable poster for this exhibition. (Photo of the poster attached).
On the back of the screen print are a few notes from Henk van der Vet regarding the colors used. The screen print also bears the dry stamp of Henk van der Vet and the signature of Karel Appel.
In short, a very rare artwork!
