Meiji period Japanese woodblock print of Bijin ga (elegant woman in kimono), titled Vrouw in Kimono and published by Tenkai sha in Tokyo, measuring 35.5 × 23.5 cm, in excellent original condition with a front publisher's seal.
Description from the seller
Elegant Japanese woodblock print from the Meiji period, published by Tenkai sha (天来舎) in Tokyo.
The print shows a stylish woman in a richly decorated kimono, standing on a veranda with a view of a snow-covered tree. The composition and soft facial lines are clearly inspired by the Kunisada style (Utagawa school), which during the Meiji period was reproduced widely for decorative purposes.
On the front there is a fish-shaped publisher's seal, a distinctive stamp used by Tenkai sha. This seal confirms the provenance and dating of the print. The colors have remained strikingly well preserved, with bright Meiji pigments. The photos look slightly yellower/pinker than in reality.
A charming and decorative print that shows the transition between Edo aesthetics and Meiji modernization. Suitable for collectors of Japanese art.
