Description from the seller
Glen Scotia - 25 year old Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl 48.8% ABV.
This venerable Glen Scotia 25 Year Old, presented in a superb wooden box, has been patiently aged in high-quality American oak casks before being married in ex-first-fill bourbon casks. Bottled at 48.8%, this full-bodied whisky offers a fruity and sweet character with crisp coastal notes and hints of sea spray.
On the nose, aromas of sweet vanilla, salty sea breezes and dried oranges, on the palate notes of red apples, tart orange, caramel, ground ginger and the coastal character remains. A superb, rich and complex whisky with a very distinct oceanic flavour.
Double gold medal winner in the over 20-year-old Single Malt Scotch category at the 2022 San Francisco Spirits Competition.
Glen Scotia is located in Campbelltown, on the Kyntire Peninsula in Scotland. The distillery, originally named Scotia, was built in 1832 by the mayor of the city James Stewart and the provost John Galbraith, who ran it until 1895. In 1919, it was one of the founding members of "West Highland Malt Distilleries" which brought together six distilleries in Campbeltown in order to share costs and avoid a possible closure. In 1924, Scotia was bought by Duncan MacCallum who had founded Glen Nevis. He was forced to close it in 1928, but it reopened in 1930. That year, however, MacCallum committed suicide after losing his savings in a scam and the distillery was bought by Bloch Brothers who added "Glen" to his name. Legend has it that the ghost of MacCallum still haunts the distillery. Bloch Brothers remained the owner of Glen Scotia until 1954, when the distillery passed into the hands of many different owners. Glen Scotia was closed again between 1984 and 1989 and was reopened under the influence of Gibson International. In 1994, Gibson's interest in whiskey was bought by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd, which quickly put Glen Scotia to sleep, once again. The distillery operated intermittently until 1999, when it returned to full-time production. In 2014, Glen Scotia was acquired by the Loch Lomond Group, which invested and developed this legendary brand, increasing its capacity, opening warehouses and creating a reception centre.
The 25-year-old was aged in the best American oak barrels of Glen Scotia before being assembled in Bourbon barrels of first filling before bottling.
