AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Aldo Donini (Milan, 1924 - Savona, 2012), Tridimensione. 1968. Dimensions 30 x 46 cm. A laminated folder contains a folded cardboard sheet into half, with a series of windows of different sizes. The artist Aldo Donini invites the reader to participate, who, with the play of hands, must render the object multidi mensional. Sara Maestri, in the note accompanying the work, writes: "Just fold the rectangles always in the same direction and a living surface of contrasts, of emptiness and fullness, of shadows and lights will emerge. The image changes into a series of different solutions as light, perspective, tilt, and folding vary. A example of modern art, pure and rigorous in its simplicity, which the poverty of material and serial production strip of the whims of criticism and the reasons of doctrine." Originally contained in Imago no. 12 of 1968. In excellent condition - the little windows have already been folded to illustrate the effect. This "paper sculpture" can be displayed freely or framed in a case to be hung on the walls.
Bibliography:
- Imago 1960-1971. A magazine between experimentation, art and industry (described and reproduced on page 324).
Aldo Donini was an Italian painter and graphic artist born in Milan on December 20, 1924 and who passed away in Savona in 2012. Although his birth took place in the Lombard capital, he trained and lived for a long time in Mantua country, linking his early artistic activity to the group of the "Independenti Mantovani". He distinguished himself from a young age for the delicacy and conception of his works, receiving important notices as early as 1950 at the Collective Exhibition Families of Artists and in 1951 at the Exhibition of the Mantovani Independents. Over the course of his career he collaborated with important institutions (creating, for example, artistic boards and divisors for the Milan Fair magazine). Toward the end of the 1970s he expressed his stylistic signature also in the design of objects and porcelain, embracing geometric and abstract compositions close to the Op Art movement (Optical Art). He is known among collectors for his geometric and structural research based on volumes and the play of light and shadow, such as the famous series of die-cut cardboard sheets entitled "Tridimensione" (1968).
