Antoni Tàpies, lithography from 1973, hand-signed and numbered in a limited edition, modern work 38 × 58 cm, origin Spain, printed on high-quality paper and framed in a Swiss hand-made Plexiglas showcase, in good condition.
Description from the seller
An expressive yet exceptionally restrained color lithograph by Antoni Tàpies from 1993.
The work is hand-signed and numbered in pencil.
Printed on high-quality wove paper with the imprint of the publishers Erker-Presse (lower left).
About the work:
The composition concentrates on a few gestural traces. On the largely unmarked, light paper surface emerges a dark, brown-black form, applied with soft, almost painterly movements. From the dense field of color, individual wavy lines develop, while the vast majority of the sheet remains deliberately empty.
It is precisely this extreme reduction that gives the work its special presence. The generous free area stands in stark contrast to the concentrated, gestural form, making every line and every trace of color appear all the more intense. Tàpies combines here in characteristic fashion abstraction, gesture, materiality, and sign.
From the series “Roman Elegies,” published by the renowned Erker-Presse in St. Gallen.
Framing:
The work is professionally and high-quality framed in an exclusive Swiss hand-made Plexiglas showcase.
Plexiglass showcase dimensions: approx. 38 x 58 cm
About the artist:
Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923–2012) is regarded as one of the most important Spanish artists of the postwar period. He developed a unmistakable visual language in which abstraction, materiality, everyday signs, and personal symbolism merge. Crosses, letters, numbers, fragments of the body as well as hand and footprints repeatedly appear in his work and have become characteristic elements of his oeuvre.
Besides his paintings and famous material pictures, Tàpies created an extensive printmaking oeuvre over the course of his career. He extensively experimented with different techniques, especially lithography and intaglio, and effectively transferred his distinctive artistic language to the medium of paper.
