Description from the seller
An impressive Japanese hand-painted hanging scroll (Kakejiku) depicting a samurai military commander in elaborate traditional armor, accompanied by a bow and arrows and a battlefield banner.
The warrior is portrayed wearing O-yoroi-style armor, with carefully rendered details throughout the helmet, armor plates, garments, weapons, and military equipment. The colorful composition conveys the dignity and commanding presence associated with historical Japanese warrior imagery.
The inclusion of a bow and arrows (Yumiya) and military flag (Gunki) creates a strong battlefield atmosphere and recalls the visual culture of Japan’s celebrated warrior tales and historical conflicts. Samurai and military commander subjects have long been popular in Japanese painting as symbols of courage, loyalty, strength, determination, and martial spirit.
Executed by hand in color, the painting demonstrates detailed brushwork and traditional Japanese pictorial techniques. The scroll is mounted in traditional format and fitted with wooden roller ends.
This work would appeal to collectors of Japanese painting, Musha-e, samurai art, military history, armor imagery, and antique hanging scrolls, and would make a striking display in a tokonoma, study, or collection.
Due to age, there may be stains, foxing, fading, creases, discoloration, tears, repairs, or wear to the mounting. Please examine all photographs carefully for the painting, inscriptions or seals, mounting, roller ends, dimensions, and overall condition.
