Gondola nella laguna di Venezia, a 1960s oil on panel work from Italy, signed and framed, listed as Originale in the Scuola italiana (XX) period (1960–1970).
Description from the seller
Italian School of the 20th Century
Gondola in the Venice Lagoon
Oil on panel
Period: 1960/1970
Signed (author not identified)
Frame: shaped wooden frame, carved, gilded and polychrome, Venetian in taste.
Description
Suggestive view of the Venetian lagoon, characterized by the large gondola placed in the foreground, on which the gondolier is depicted standing during the operation of the boat. The diagonal position of the gondola gives depth to the composition and guides the gaze toward the horizon.
In the background the profile of the lagoon city unfolds, punctuated by bell towers and architectures barely suggested, while several sailing boats animate the surface of the water. The author favors an atmospheric representation rather than analytically descriptive: sky and lagoon are constructed through a range of pearly grays, blues and ivory tones, with delicate transitions of light.
Particularly effective is the contrast between the dark mass of the gondola and the brightness of the water. The reflection of the vessel is broken down into short dark brushstrokes, while the red band of the gondolier and the ochre-yellow of the hat constitute the main chromatic accents of the scene.
Size: 49 x 38.5 cm in a contemporary frame
Panel: 40 x 30 cm
Frame: shaped wooden frame, carved, gilded and polychrome, Venetian in taste.
