Historical-artistic description

Mimosa e violette is a large-format floral still life, built around the spectacular yellow mass of the mimosa, which almost entirely occupies the upper part of the composition.

Graziani places the numerous flowering clusters according to a broad and deliberately exuberant structure. The sequence of the small yellow blossoms is interrupted by gray-green leaves, creating a vibrant and luminous surface that emerges strongly from the dark brown-reddish background.

The large bouquet is gathered within a red vase, whose warm color constitutes the second important chromatic focal point of the composition. In the foreground appears a smaller green receptacle containing a small bouquet of violets, thus building the contrast that gives rise to the historical title of the work.

Particularly refined is the chromatic relationship between the yellow of the mimosa, the red of the vase, the green of the container, and the violet of the small flowers. At the base, the gray-green drapery, threaded with decorative motifs, introduces another element of movement and gives depth to the composition.

The painting material appears substantial, especially in the flowers, where small touches of color physically construct the mimosa clusters. The result is a still life with a strong decorative presence, yet supported by careful organization of masses and chromatic relationships.

Signature

The signature “A. GRAZIANI” is clearly visible in the lower left corner of the painting surface.

Frame

The work is housed in an important carved and decorated wooden frame, of modern taste, characterized by a light ivory/antique silver finish, enriched with gilded profiles and ornamental motifs.

The frame, which brings the overall dimensions of the work to 117 × 88 cm, appears stylistically well matched to the painting and contributes to its considerable decorative presence.

Condition Report

Based on the available photographs, the painting appears overall in good conservational condition, considering its 1943 dating.

The canvas appears regularly tensioned on the wooden stretcher and no significant structural deformations are immediately evident. The paint surface retains good legibility and still intense color, particularly in the yellows of the mimosa and the reds of the vase.

*** Photography note
Some images of the work were taken with professional studio lighting and spotlights to allow better readability of the composition, details and painting matter. Such lighting may cause slight variations in color perception and brightness compared with viewing the work directly. The photographs are for illustrative and documentary purposes only.

The frame is supplied free of charge as a courtesy with the work and should be considered an accessory element, not included in the painting’s monetary evaluation. Due to the natural fragility of antique and gilded frames, any damage, detachments, breaks or losses of parts of the frame occurring during transport or shipping cannot be subject to refund, compensation, or contestation regarding the value of the work. The packaging will, however, be prepared with the utmost care to ensure, as far as possible, safe transport.
