Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
The Waterman Ideal 92 fountain pen, made in the United States from marbled celluloid, is 12.8 cm long with a 1.1 cm diameter, features a 14K gold nib and a lever-fill system, and is in good working condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
The piece presents a very satisfactory overall condition, especially considering its age, preserving an attractive aesthetic and full functionality.
The body and the cap in marbled celluloid maintain a beautiful pattern with good depth of color. Signs of use typical of the passage of time are evident, mainly minor superficial micro-scratches and a slight loss of shine in some areas, with no cracks or visible deformations. The engraving on the barrel (“Waterman’s Ideal”) is present, though softened, something common in pieces from this era.
The metal elements gold-plated, such as the clip, the cap ring, and the lever, retain a good general presence. Wear is observed on the plating, especially on the clip, where use has muted the original gold finish without affecting its structural functionality.
The lever-fill system has been inspected and works correctly, allowing efficient ink filling and immediate use.
The original Waterman’s Ideal nib in 14K gold is in good condition, with no appreciable deformations, proper alignment, and smooth writing behavior. It shows wear consistent with historical use, maintaining optimal performance.
Overall, this is an authentic and well-preserved example, with signs of use appropriate to its age, which do not compromise its aesthetics or functionality, resulting in a very attractive piece for both collection and everyday use.
Conservation recommendations:
- Use high-quality fountain pen inks and avoid pigmented inks. If not used for an extended period, clean with warm water, dry carefully before storing, and keep in a dry place away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Operate the filling system gently to preserve proper function.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
