Description from the seller
A0000005218
This Blackbird Self-Filling Pen, one of the most representative and valued pens by the mythical British manufacturer Mabie Todd & Co., presents in a truly enviable state of preservation. The body and cap, made in the classic noble ebonite (hard rubber) of a dark color, preserve with astonishing clarity its texturized or chased (chasing) circumferential pattern, reflecting a surface magnificently cared for and completely free of cracks, fissures, or marks of severe use. The material shows a uniform historical patina and a slight chocolate-toned maturation that is the unmistakable signature of its authenticity and age.
The solid 14-carat gold nib stands out superbly: it bears the historical engravings of its denomination in impeccably sharp form, with its tines perfectly aligned and the iridium tip whole, robust and without the slightest deformation or twist. On the reverse, the grip section gives way to a robust flat ebonite feed that proudly houses the deep-relief engraved brand "BLACKBIRD", maintaining clean and structurally perfect channels.
Regarding the metal details, the lever on the side of the filling system with its nickel or chrome finish maintains a clean, firm metallic shine. It shows impeccable alignment and excellent aesthetic tension when perfectly flush with the body of the piece, showing wear over time practically negligible compared to what is typical for pens of this era.
A definitive factor for its high collection value is the sharpness of its imprints. The identity engraving on the grip section remains extraordinarily deep, bearing the word "BLACKBIRD" with total neatness. Likewise, the top end of the cap crowns the piece, repeating the engraving "BLACKBIRD" clearly and without smudges, allowing the originality of each of its historical components to be certified at first glance.
In conclusion, it is a showroom specimen, extremely elegant, robust, and preserved to an extremely high standard. A historical piece of the archaeology of writing that will enrich any high-level collection.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
