Description from the seller
Edward Hopper: “New York Office, 1962”.
Signed on the plate.
Condition: this offset lithograph is in very good condition.
Format: 44 x 31 cm.
The confrontations between nature and civilization in Hopper's early works gave way in later years to studies of the human in his urban environment.
In this painting, dominated by geometric forms, the viewer's gaze is drawn to the sun-drenched figure of a woman.
She resembles a movie star, framed by a window that is at once a screen and a mirror reflecting the viewer's desires.
Here Hopper repeats an idea he used in “Office at Night” from 1940. But while the earlier work shows a woman with an overtly seductive figure and a man, the 1962 painting is less explicit. Here we see an example of Hopper's tendency in later years to almost completely hide the sexual element that dominates a number of his paintings, but without sacrificing impact.
Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The images shown are part of the description.
This artwork is carefully and securely packed and shipped in protective acid-free paper.
No shipping to the Canary Islands.
