Description from the seller
A true gem of the history of Spanish guitar-making goes up for sale. It is one of the first models from Manufacturas Alhambra, manufactured in the 1960s in Muro de Alcoy (Alicante). It preserves its original gold label with the map, the distinctive mark of the firm’s early era before modern mass production.
The beginnings of the Alhambra brand rested on the knowledge of renowned luthiers and master guitar makers of the time, such as Francisco Martínez Clavel, José María Vilaplana, or Rafael Insa, who poured their artisanal techniques into the workshop to give rise to these first instruments with soul and traditional character.
Elegance, Aged Woods, and Aesthetic Details
It stands out at a glance for the elegance of its finishes and for its woods, which have more than 50 years of natural aging. The spruce top presents a dense, very uniform grain and a beautiful tone. Virgin mahogany back and sides, very stately and difficult to find, accompanied by aesthetically pleasing inlays both on the body profiles and on the carefully crafted soundhole rosette. The headstock preserves its vintage engraved tuners, giving it a unique retro touch.
Solid Materials and Construction
Construction with high-quality solid woods. The wood has matured over the decades without losing stability or stiffness, offering a solidity that is no longer found in modern-cut woods.
Sound
Thanks to the passage of time and the natural drying of its woods, it offers a warm, dry, sweet sound with a lot of aging. It has excellent projection and that deep, enveloping resonance typical of well-preserved vintage classical Spanish guitars.
Condition and Exclusivity
Today it is extremely difficult to obtain a piece from these early Alhambra production series, and even more so maintaining this conservation state. It shows small signs and purely aesthetic wear marks on the varnish, typical of its history years, but with no cracks or structural fissures. The neck is in good condition and the guitar is fully functional and ready to play.
