Caccia al cinghiale in paesaggio con castelli - NO RESERVE, an oil painting from the 19th century Italy, framed.
Description from the seller
Italian School of the 19th Century
Oil and tempera on panel
Period: 1800/1850
Measurements: 54 x 26.5 cm including frame
Painting: 50 x 21 cm
“ Caccia al cinghiale in paesaggio con castelli “
Era: 19th century, presumably 1800/1850
Technique: tempera and/or oil on wooden panel
Subject: Boar hunt in a landscape with castles
Scope: Italian, Neogothic/Neorenaissance taste
Frame: gilded wood, of a later or contemporaneous period
The panel depicts a lively boar hunt set in an idealized forest landscape. On the left, the aristocratic procession advances: two richly dressed horsemen, accompanied by hunting dogs, converge toward the large boar depicted running in the center of the scene. On the right, three beaters, armed with long poles, participate in the action.
Particularly decorative are the details of the horse tack, the garments, and the headdresses, built with intense reds, blacks and touches of gold. The landscape is organized in overlapping planes, with stylized vegetation and in the background, small fortified villages and crenellated castles perched on the hills.
The composition intentionally recalls the language of fourteenth- and fifteenth-century courteous and venatorial scenes, particularly those paintings intended for cassoni (chests), spallieri (backboards) and furnishings of noble homes. The hierarchical proportions, simplified perspective, heavily stylized trees, and the almost miniature-like description of the architectures are deliberately archaizing elements.
Condition report: the panel appears overall in fair condition given its age. Visible are wear and abrasions of the paint surface, color alterations and inhomogeneities, surface deposits and possible previous painting interventions/restorations. On the back there are stains, signs of use and old mounting elements. The gilded frame shows widespread wear, abrasions and small losses.
*** Exceptional presentation of the work without a reserve price ***
