Description from the seller
Item Description
This is a three-tier Japanese jubako, a stacked lacquer food box, with a lid. It is finished in glossy black lacquer and decorated with a gold maki-e pine branch. Fine radiating pine needles are drawn in delicate gold lines, and the textured gold of the branch contrasts with the deep black ground. The design continues across the lid and the sides of all three tiers, so the branch reads as one flowing composition when the box is stacked. The interior of each tier is finished in vivid red lacquer. The back panel is left plain black.
Jubako are traditionally used to serve New Year's osechi cuisine and for festive occasions. The pine motif is a classic Japanese symbol of longevity and good fortune. The box can also be used for storage or display.
