Bloemstilleven by Henriëtte Pessers (1899–1986), oil painting from 1950–1960, Netherlands, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
This painting is an atmospheric floral still life in which a bouquet of light-colored and red flowers is depicted in a dark vase. The almost black background makes the flowers stand out strongly, while the subdued colors give the whole a calm and restrained appearance. In particular, the contrast between the cream-colored flowers, the red tulips, and the deep green of the leaves draws attention. The shapes are painted rather loosely and boldly, without every detail being worked out exactly. As a result, it is not only a faithful representation of the flowers, but above all about color, form, and atmosphere. This style of painting aligns well with the expressionist characteristics found in Henriëtte Pessers's work.
Henriëtte Pessers (1899–1986) was a Dutch painter, born in Tilburg. She attended there the R.K. Leergangen for visual arts and in 1925 moved to Brussels to continue her studies at the art academy. During her stay in Belgium she came into contact with Flemish Expressionism, which had a major influence on her work. Pessers painted landscapes, portraits, and floral still lifes. In 1939 she returned to the Netherlands and settled in Heeze, where her style gradually became more realistic. Her work is included in the collections of the Noordbrabants Museum and the Van Abbemuseum.
