Description from the seller
An amazing tall six-panel folding screen 屏風 (byôbu) depicting an idyllic autumn landscape against a gold-leaf ground.
A maple tree 紅葉 (momiji), its leaves turning shades of red and russet, extends across the central panels. Beneath it, white and soft-pink hibiscus 木槿 (mukuge) bloom, while yellow chrysanthemums 菊 (kiku) and plumes of Japanese silver grass 薄 (susuki) grow among the rocks. The open gold background gives the branches and flowers a sense of space.
The painting is executed in colour and ink on gold leaf and set within a black-lacquered frame.
Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912–1926).
Dimensions: Height 171.4 cm; total width 376.6 cm (2 x 64.1 cm and 4 x 62.1 cm).
In very good condition, with minimal signs of age. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition.
The folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art, but can of course also be displayed as a standalone piece.
When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
