Description from the seller
This vibrant and engaging painting, titled "The Wedding," is a bold exploration of family relationships. The artist masterfully combines acrylic and charcoal on canvas to create a contemporary portraiture piece that invites personal interpretation. The artwork features overlapping collage-like surfaces, with layers of drawing and painting forming unique vistas. Detailed sections interplay with rough, abstract patterns, resulting in a captivating visual experience.
This large, colorful painting is sure to make a statement in any space. Its engaging nature and intriguing textures make it a perfect conversation starter. "The Wedding" adds a touch of contemporary style to your home.
Ready to hang: no, the painting will be rolled and needs to be stretched again by your local framer. Shipping extra-large formats rolled is safer and more environmentally friendly than shipping finished works.
Seller's Story
The work of Romy van Rijckevorsel is daring, colorful, very inviting for personal interpretations and not without obligation!.
Romy van Rijckevorsel paints in an eclectic way. In her work you see many references to classical artists. (eg Gustav Klimt, decorative backgrounds, but also Egon Schiele). It is also eclectic because of the different styles: drawing, graffiti, painting and
graphic elements. All these elements are very successfully combined into an organic whole in which there is also a unique handwriting lurking. That is very smart, because the combination of references and styles can also go wrong very quickly. In Romy's work, however, she stops at exactly that
right moment. The paintings are very postmodern in the sense of "everything is possible" and yet it is not restless at all. On the one hand the works are very decorative and on the other hand also hard and almost provocative and vulgar. Yet they are balanced, partly due to
the strong composition. (jury report Painting of the year 2020, eventually finished 9th out of 1250 applications)
