A 20th‑century Japanese hanging scroll titled Fierce tiger 猛虎, measuring 180 × 52 cm, depicting a tiger advancing beside bamboo with a gold‑toned patterned textile mount, signed and stamped, with provenance from an auction house and original/official authenticity.
Description from the seller
A tiger advances beside bamboo in this hanging scroll, its direct gaze and bared teeth giving the image a commanding presence. Fine fur strokes, white whiskers and a curling tail animate the composition, framed by a warm, gold-toned patterned textile mount.
Tiger and bamboo are a traditional Japanese motif associated with strength.
The image area measures 180 × 52 cm. An inscribed wooden box accompanies the scroll; its lid reads 猛虎 (mōko), “fierce tiger.” Picture and box bear a name I haven't been able to translate.
The image retains strong colour. The mounting has spots and minor creasing; the backing has toning, spotting and a pinkish mark. The top rod’s paper has creases and small losses; cord ends are frayed. The box has scuffs, small chips and a rough corner joint. I am not a specialist; the suggested modern date remains an estimate.
