Description from the seller
This is a very peculiar photograph by the renowned Sicilian photographer Calogero Cascio, taken in 1963 in Nepal, in Kathmandu, during one of his important photo assignments. Calogero Cascio was one of the finest Italian photographers of the 20th century; he worked independently and for agencies and famous newspapers, and he was also, together with photographer Caio Mario Garrubba, a founder of Realphoto in Rome. It is a true vintage photograph, large-format, duly stamped by Calogero Cascio, and it represents, as handwritten on the back indicates, a bas-relief of the Nepalese war god Seto Bhairab, embodying both the negative force of possible “Destruction” and the positive one of “Protection,” with two local boys at its base, part of this important assignment by Cascio, very famous, which captured moments of life in Nepal’s capital in 1963, including characteristic exterior views of houses typical of the place. In very good overall condition; the photo is large-format, namely 35.6 x 23.5 cm.
