Description from the seller

A highly desirable original UK stereo first pressing of Genesis' debut album, From Genesis To Revelation, issued on Decca (SKL 4990) with the classic blue unboxed labels. This is the very early stereo issue, housed in the original front-laminated sleeve, where the laminate wraps around the spine onto the rear. The back cover features Decca's distinctive mono/stereo indicator hole—a design element that allowed the colour of the original inner sleeve to identify the format: blue for stereo and red for mono. The original first-issue lyric insert was printed with both catalogue numbers, LK 4990 for mono and SKL 4990 for stereo; later inserts carrying only the stereo catalogue number belong to subsequent pressings, making this a particularly significant early copy.

An especially attractive feature of this copy is the exceptionally low mother and stamper combination: Side 1 originates from 1 K and Side 2 from 1 U, both sides therefore deriving from the first mother. Using Decca's famous Buckingham stamper code, K represents the 4th stamper while U represents the 2nd stamper—very early production metalwork and an excellent detail for serious collectors. The matrix runout numbers (ZAL-8839.P-1W and ZAL-8840.P-2W) also identify very early Decca lacquer cuts, with the 1W / 2W markings confirming the early pressing status.

⸻

Sleeve (VG+):
A particularly clean example of this notoriously unforgiving black sleeve. The laminated front panel presents beautifully with excellent colour and shine, showing only slight creasing to the laminate. The unlaminated rear shows some normal age-related wear, but nothing excessive or distracting. Overall a strong VG+ example, approaching EX.

Vinyl (EX):
A fantastic copy with a deep, beautiful original gloss. Under very strong grading light there is a small amount of grey play sheen consistent with normal previous use, but there are no deep scratches or long prominent marks. The playing surfaces remain exceptionally attractive, grading EX.
