Gerhard Richter Gehöfte, a signed offset print in a limited edition, in good condition and framed, approx. 74 x 74 cm including the frame, from Germany, dating 1990–2000.
Description from the seller
This atmospheric art print by Gerhard Richter depicts the motif from his 1999 work “Gehöfte.”
Signed bottom right with black felt-tip pen.
About the work:
The representation shows a wintry courtyard landscape with snow-covered buildings and a nearly empty environment. In the foreground lies a wide, bright snowfield, while in the background simple building structures, dark roof surfaces, and bare trees can be seen.
A particularly characteristic feature is the soft, slightly blurred image effect, which is typical for many of Richter’s photographically inspired works.
The contours of the buildings seem to dissolve in places, while the subdued gray, brown, and pink tones create a quiet, almost melancholic atmosphere.
At first glance, the motif appears like a casual photographic snapshot. However, the unusual blur and the reduced color palette produce a composition that goes beyond mere representation of a landscape. Memory, transience, and the subjective perception of reality become central themes.
Framing:
The work is of high quality framing and set in a custom-made thick (acid-free) matte board, encased in a handmade white wooden frame to measure. The glazing consists of high-quality Plexiglas Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and low light reflection.
Format including frame approx. 74 x 74 cm.
About the artist:
Gerhard Richter (born 1932 in Dresden) is among the internationally most significant artists of postwar and contemporary German art. His exceptionally versatile body of work includes photorealist paintings, abstract compositions, landscapes, portraits, and works on paper.
Since the early 1960s, Richter has intensely explored the relationship between photography and painting. His famous technique of deliberate blur makes familiar motifs appear both realistic and distanced. In doing so, he questions how images are created, how reliable our perception is, and what role photographs play in our memory.
In addition to his figurative works, Richter developed an extensive abstract oeuvre in which color, chance, and painterly processes take center stage.
His works are part of numerous major international museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Tate in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Gerhard Richter is among the most sought-after artists of his generation.
