About the work:

Our lovers on vacation in Mauritius continue their collection of picturesque village names. In Pointe aux Piments, they lie side by side, at the edge of a turquoise lagoon, in the shade of two leaning palm trees. The husband has turned the loungers toward the beach, probably preferring his own show to that of the waves, which he can watch hidden behind his glasses and his book. The name of the place promised some spice, but not the one his wife evidently hoped for. She shoots him an indignant glance and reminds him, without raising her voice, of the original itinerary of the trip. With her surreal pop touch, Emmanuelle Pellet blends an almost documentary precision of the Mauritian setting with caricatured characters, tenderly, in humor that arises from a simple place name.

About the artist:

A trained art historian, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before earning the Agrégation in visual arts (3rd place). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach. Her career today informs a personal body of work where painting mastery engages with a deep understanding of imagery and art history. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now included in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
