Description from the seller
The Boss GE-10 Graphic Equalizer is a legendary and extremely rugged analog 10-band equalizer, introduced in December 1976 as one of Boss's very first effects. Unlike the later compact pedals, the GE-10 is a larger, heavy unit that runs directly on power (AC). The pedal became world-famous thanks to guitarists like Eddie Van Halen and George Lynch, who used it to shape their characteristic mid-range boost (the "brown sound") and push their tube amps harder into clipping.
Main specifications & features
- 10 Frequency bands: adjustable at 31Hz, 62Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz and 16kHz.
- Range: Each band can be boosted or cut by up to ±12 dB.
- Output Gain: Offers up to a remarkable +15 dB extra volume via the master level slider. This makes the pedal excellent to use as a powerful clean boost or mild preamp to overdrive an amplifier.
- Connectors: Equipped with a 1/4-inch input and output jack, an built-in EQ/Normal (bypass) switch, and an external footswitch input that lets you turn the EQ on or off remotely.
- Production period: Manufactured in Japan from 1976 to circa 1984/1985.
Why is it so beloved?
Although the GE-10 isn’t very pedalboard-friendly due to its size and weight, it remains a sought-after collector’s item and studio piece. The unit is known for its extremely quiet, low-noise operation and the organic, musical way it colors the tone. Because it operates at a higher internal voltage than standard 9V pedals, it has substantially more headroom.
The switch has been replaced with a push button as shown in the photo, as this was easier to use with the foot.
