Description from the seller
Autumn Forest - Jan Sierhuis
After the war, Jan Sierhuis developed into an expressionist painter, influenced among others by Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. Together with Appel, Corneille and Lucebert he found himself at the heart of post-war developments in the art.
In 1945 Sierhuis was admitted to the evening program at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. In 1947 he was involved with the group of the Experimentelen and in 1948 with the CoBrA group, although he was too young to officially become a member. Later, in 1962, he co-founded the Amsterdam artists’ group Groep Scorpio.
In the fifties and sixties Sierhuis mainly worked abstract. Afterwards he returned to the human figure and shifted his attention to figurative themes such as dancing figures, portraits and landscapes. He spent many summers in Spain, where his passion for flamenco had a strong influence on his work. This dance embodies everything his painting characterizes: color, emotion, movement and rhythm.
Dimensions of the work without a frame: 80 x 60 cm
Hand-signed and dated '82'
Oil paint and tempera on canvas
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition we have our own in-house picture-framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year.
